PROJECT BRIEF:
The client has hired you to verify the suitability of the site depicted in the plan provided for use as a restaurant. They have asked that you develop a preliminary design that meets the requirements listed and that includes a preliminary material palette. Based upon your findings, the client may sign a lease for the building or elect to review another local building that might better suit their needs.
We will be visiting the University Archives department to view historical objects that will inform and add depth to your project. Depending on which option you choose, you will need to select at least 1 object, concept, or piece of information that you will incorporate into your project. This could be a menu, recipe, architectural element, or general concept. This can be a literal or conceptual interpretation of the historical object.
CONCEPT STATEMENT:
In 1977, UW Stout held the Haute Restaurant experience, providing those with an eleven-course meal taking them around the world. The third and last international port they experienced was Scandinavian dishes, complete with a Danish entrée.
Scandinavian Lounge focuses on serving modern cocktails and wines along with traditional Danish recipes. The atmosphere reflects that of the Scandinavian Modern style when it comes to the theme of neutral colors, but also clean, linear lines in casework and architectural elements. The bar portrays more of an open comfortable lounge area, while the dining area is cozy yet bright. Greenery and surface materials help balance out the space, adding naturalistic and simplistic colors. This is a lounge meant to feel modern and comfortable, so those coming to try something new will keep wanting to come back.
